Product briefing

What it is and how it fits a coding workflow

Ona is the current identity of the former Gitpod product direction: cloud software-engineering agents running in ephemeral, isolated development environments. It provides browser and mobile access, repository-aware work, integrations, policy controls and options for cloud or customer infrastructure. This makes it a strong fit for delegated engineering work where reproducible environments and centralized governance matter. It is not local-first by default: source, dependencies, credentials and model traffic can live in a managed or customer-controlled cloud boundary depending on deployment. Define repository access, secret injection, network egress, approval and merge policy before allowing agents to work on production services. The platform is especially relevant for teams moving from individual CLI experiments to repeatable, auditable agent operations.

Best fit

  • Cloud-based software engineering and delegation
  • Ephemeral isolated environments
  • Teams needing policy, audit and remote work access

Probably not your fit if…

Offline-only development or a minimal local CLI.

What stands out

  • ↗ Isolated cloud environments
  • ↗ Browser/mobile access and integrations
  • ↗ Customer-infrastructure options and enterprise controls

Trade-offs to check

  • ! Cloud data and secret boundaries need explicit design
  • ! Former Gitpod references should be mapped to the current Ona product
